What is Brock’s History Department?
Evolving in 1964, Brock’s history department uses both traditional and innovative approaches through surveying, gathering, and interpreting evidence, Brock University encourages history students to examine cultural, political, economic, social, and natural history. Looking at both the cause and consequence of studied change, Brock’s students are able to bring light to past society, culture, and people in order to develop knowledgeable arguments on the basis of historical evidence.
What Did Our Team Accomplish?
Looking at tax rolls taken from the city of St. Catharines in the 1900’s, HIST 2P26 was able to decode the information and develop an interactive webGIS mapping system. Using our knowledge of the cities past development, the GIS matches the previous city population to the current road layout, showing exactly where these individuals would live today. The data also includes stats of children, total property value, occupation, age, and household animals.
